The template provided on the APLI website can be quite difficult to work with so we have created our own Template to make things easier.
Simply click on the link below to open the template in Microsoft Word.
The page contains 24 text boxes laid out on an A4 page.
Each textbox lines up with a label on the 24 up sheets of labels that we sell in our shop.
As long as your text fits within one of these textboxes then it should print out ok on your sheet of labels.

Bride of the Month - October

Congratulations to
Aisling and Aidan Farrelly...

...who got married on the 20th of August. This is their story….

We got married in Prosperous Church and our reception took place in Trim Castle Hotel. Both of which were amazing. Trim Castle could not have done more that they did. The staff were amazing and our day went off without a hitch.
Myself and Aidan have been together for eight years and were engaged for four of those. Our beautiful daughter Ella will be three in December, she was our flower girl on our special day and she was the bell of the ball. We loved our day-it was everything we dreamed it would be and so much more. All our family and friends were there to celebrate with us and the memories of the day will live with us both everyday.

For the invitations we were inspired by Morocco collection. I loved the simplicity and the elegance of the look of the invitation. We ordered the paper and card form John, who was so helpful. He gave me ideas on what different ways I could use different card and paper together. Another reason that we chose a simple invitation because we had a large amount of them to do. As we were making them ourselves we wanted to make it as stress free as possible- A Bride has enough to worry about. But I must say I had no worries about my invitation, the staff as Daintree were so helpful, patient and friendly, and answered any questions we had as we were assembling our invites. We were advised as to font and what best suited our style of invites. This allowed us to print three invites to a page, which saved us time and money :).

We added a little bit of a twist by also applying a wax seal on the back of each envelope. Everybody complimented us them. They loved them and we were delighted that we added them, it really completed the invitations. We used the seal as opposed to the gun, this took a bit of time but was well worth it.(These were bought in Daintree).

Tips for brides to be;

Clear your table and be well organised. It is amazing how much more you get done, instead of grabbing a minute here and there.
Order more than you need, mistakes can happen, no matter how prepared you are.
Enjoy it, have a laugh at the mistakes and remember they are your invitations and can be whatever you want them to be.
We wrote the names with a gold pen which really complimented our style of invites (these were also purchased in Daintree).

Aisling & Aidan made the Morocco Opal invitations and sealed the envelope using sealing wax.

Jamie and Damien Walker...

...who got married in Nerja, Spain on the 24th September 2009 and had an absolute ball. Here is their story….

“There were about 40 of us that travelled altogether and I can honestly say that it was the best day of my life. Everything fell into place perfectly in the end, the sun was shining and everyone was smiling. I wish I could say that the lead up to the day was as relaxed as the Wedding day, nothing really prepared me for the build up and looking back I was probably a bit too relaxed about the whole thing and left alot of the preparation until very close to the day.

One thing that did not cause me any upset at all was the Wedding Invites, I was a little apprehensive about ordering them online and making them myself but I was so very happy with the results. When I compared the pricing with other supplier’s online Daintree invites were less than half the price and I was very impressed with their website. I wanted something very simple and wanted to keep the invites quite casual seen as I was having a Wedding abroad so I picked the White Fuji invites. When they arrived (which was a speedy delivery) Damien and I decided that we would make them together, he glued the card to the outside cover and I punched the holes and tied the ribbon. I had earlier printed the cards on my home printer using the template that Daintree had online and after only 1 invite "mess up" I was away.

It was lovely to tell people when they called that we had put them together ourselves and people were very surprised to hear this, all reactions that we had were very positive. I felt very valued as a customer and there was someone available immediately to answer a few questions that I had in relation to putting the invitations together. I have to say that the step by step guide on the website was excellent.

If I were to give any advice I would say to enjoy every minute of the Wedding preparation because it really is such a great time and although you can always listen to advice, do everything that you want to do. Don’t stress the day will come and go just the same. In relation to invites go for the "make it yourself" option from Daintree and order up extra just in case, I ordered 10 extra and needed every one of them”.

Claudine was selected as our Bride of the Month for July:
Here's what she had to say:

We (Myself & Feargal O Hara) got married last year April 17, just had our 1st year! One down! We got married in UCC and we had our reception in Barnabrow house in East Cork. We had an amazing day, I can`t believe a year has gone by already.

We used Daintree invites for our wedding and had great fun making them together. It was great being able to add that personal touch. Everyone commented on how nice and unique they where. We then used the motive from the Card to wrap around our favour boxes just to keep the theme going .Also we made our own thank you cards again using the same theme.

If you are thinking of making your own invites, make sure you leave enough time. and not to get stressed out. The only thing that got us through the wedding planning was my trusty filo fax...I would have been lost without it. Also take as much help from people, even if you are a bit of a control freak (like myself!).

We found the Daintree very good, the delivery times especially.The instruction that came with the cards and the on-line demo were all fantastic. We felt that dealing with daintree had a personal feel to it. You knew that you had support if you needed help in any way. Other websites that we came across during our wedding planning were not as personal.

Invite of the Month - July (041)

Congratulations to Lisa Harrison, who designed July's Invitation of the Month.

Graphic Designer Lisa Harrison joined the Daintree staff in July 09. She loves turning your dream invite into reality.
Lisa designed this invite for a bride who wanted a modern yet tactile feel.

She's the first winner of our invite of the month design. See below for the details of the materials needed to make this invite and for the printing templates.

The Invitation Details are printed on Stockwell 200g A4 and cut to 9.9 X 21cm so you get 3 Main Invitations per A4.

This is decorated with a Rhododendron Pink Band and a 20cm strip of Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon.

The outer card is made from 1 A4 sheet of Chocolate Linen Card which is folded in three.

Once folded the invitation is sealed with a piece of Pink Rhododendron which is cut from an A4 sheet (4X29.7cm). You will get 5 of these per A4 sheet.

It is tied with another piece of Grosgrain and fits neatly into an Ivory Milano DL Envelope.

Ten Tips for your Wedding Stationery

These tips were compiled by Daintree's Paul Barnes and were featured in the latest edition of Hot Press magazine.

1. Consider making your own stationery, for a personal creative touch. It's amazing what you can do on your own PC.

2. Use the best quality materials. You don't have to compromise on quality

3. Designing your invitations, consider the size; make sure you can get an envelope to fit

4. Test the paper on your printer. Not all papers work with all printers.

5. Don't send real flower petals to Australia or New Zealand: customs will confiscate them!

6. Remember it's normally one invite per couple.

7. See the "how to videos" on the Daintree Paper website.

8. You can use the templates on the Daintree site to type in your guests names.

9. Send your invites out at least 6 weeks beforehand.

10. Prepare yourself for all the compliments you will receive on making your beautiful invitations.

Lots of couples are making their own invitations, rather then getting them printed by a specialist wedding shop. There are all sorts of ways you can make your own.
You can design your own invitation (templates online can help with ideas), buy good-quality paper and print them out yourself at home.
You can go to a specialist stationery shop (like Daintree in Dublin) where you can choose your paper, then use the printing templates on the Daintree website and print out the invites yourself.
You can design your invitation yourself, then take it to a local print shop to be printed.

Japanese Screen Printing

Here at Daintree, we stock a range of beautiful Japanese Screen Printed paper. Each design contains amazing detail and are all the more impressive because of the fact that they are handmade.

The paper used is machine made and is then pasted to a wooden board for stability, the first silkscreen is registered and ink applied. A new screen is carefully lined up with the previous one, a new colur is applied and the process is repeated.The example below shows a six stage screen print.

New designs you may like

We've been working on some new designs lately - they may make it to the website in some form in the future, but we thought you might like to have a look and see what you think.

1. Osaka

This is an A5 card invitation. The backing card is 350g Colorplan Mist, which is then overlaid with White Kyoto, one of our new Japanes screenprint papers. The invitation is printed in a concertina fold style, similar to our Monaco style.

The paper we used is the 175g Colorplan Mist and we've wrapped it with 2mm ivory satin cord. We recommend using a C5 Milano Ivory envelope with this style.

2. New Zealand

This is a striking design that is very simple to make. Colorplan 175g Baghad brown is folded into a DL-sized trifold and inside is a Stardream Opal 120g printed insert, set off with a Gold Skeleton Leaf and a 3mm Satin Straw bow.

As you can see in the above image, we then seal the invitation with gold wax. We suggest using a DL Stardream Opal envelope for this style - we think it'll contrast with the brown very nicely.

3. Canada

The last of our new styles is a very minimal and elegant invitation. It's an A5 folded card (in this case 300g Hahnemuhle White), printed on the cover and on both inside pages. We've made this a little different by scoring the card quite far in from the main fold (approx 45mm from the centre), which makes for a wonderful effect.

To finish, we wrapped the card with our extremely delicate Hakuryu 7.5g paper and a length of 25mm White Organza. A C5 White Milano envelope would be ideal for this style.

So, that's what we're working on at the moment. Let us know what you think - we'll put up some templates and guides if people are interested, and we're always interested to hear from our customers.

We've just made a new addition to our line of Japanese papers, with some new styles available now on our website and in store.

We thought you might like to know a little about the paper and its history:

These wonderfully decorative patterns on paper, known as Chiyogami, are silkscreened onto machinemade sheets of mixed kozo and sulphite. They are more popularly known as Yuzen in the United States.

Originally, Chiyogami designs were developed in the Edo period as woodblock prints by papermakers during the farming season for use as accessories in the house to enliven the interiors. They were based on the bright kimono textiles which the papermakers from the countryside saw on the fashionable wealthier ladies in the larger cities, especially in Kyoto, where the area known as Yuzen had become famous for its sophisticated techniques for dyeing cloth.

Chiyogami was meant to be cut into pieces and made into paper dolls or pasted on tea tins or small paper boxes; still today the scale of the patterns is reminiscent of these early uses. And still many of the symbols depicted harken back to auspicious occasions when fancy kimonos would be worn: cranes for long life; bamboo for flexibility; plum blossoms and pine boughs for beauty and longevity.

The striking pigment colours, careful registration of screens and wide range of designs make these papers ideal for picture mats, books and box making.

The range of Chiyogami patterns is endless, and Japanese designers today are tireless in their development of new fascinating patterns.

So, you may have noticed that we've subtly changed how we sell our wedding invitations online. We now cut everything (including the printed paper) as far as possible. This means that it's much easier to make your own invitations. We're really excited about this new approach. We've tested it out pretty exhaustively, and we're confident that with our custom-size printing guide (see this blog post) you'll be off and running with your invitations.

We strongly recommend that you buy a sample pack of whichever styles interest you before you commit to a larger order. That way, you can try out the custom sizes and find out if it works for your printer.

However, just in case your printer is unable to print custom sizes for some reason, we've decided to put up all our old A4-based templates and the How-To guides that went with them. If you decide to use these instead of the new templates, please don't forget to tell us that you don't want your printing paper cut down when you order.

* The A4 templates are only current for styles uploaded in 2007. We don't have any for Java, Monaco, Costa Rica, or any styles that will appear in the future.*

Printing Custom Sizes

We're changing the way we sell paper in our Wedding Invitations to make it even easier to make your own. Now all printing paper is cut down to size where possible and where not, we've tried to limit it to one cut only.

All home printers, with a little coaxing, should be able to print custom-sized sheets. Not sure how to do it? Read on:

Setting up Custom-Size Paper In Your Printer

Step 1

Click PRINT PREVIEW in the FILE MENU
The document should print exactly as it appears onscreen.
So, if there is a problem with printer margins, you will notice it in PRINT PREVIEW. If there is, you'll need to fix it before you continue (If everything looks good, skip ahead to Step 2).

Troubleshooting Printer Margins:

(a) Click PAGE SET-UP in the FILE MENU*
(b) Select the MARGIN TAB. Set all number fields to zero. A prompt box will appear – click the IGNORE** button
(c) Click print preview again.

* If PAGE SET-UP is 'greyed out', just click on the grey area of the document - you may only have the text box selected, not the whole document.

** When you hit the IGNORE button, your text boxes may shift slightly. If this occurs, just press SHIFT and right-click to select multiple text boxes, then use the arrow keys to reposition text.

If this has not solved your problem try the following:

Make the space between your lines smaller to fit inside your printer margins. You can do this by using the PARAGRAPH Tool. Or you can make your font slightly smaller. If you are still having difficulties, please send us an e-mail.

Using the PARAGRAPH Tool:
Select a single line of text and right click- select PARAGRAPH. Go to the SPACING section and change the point sizes in the BEFORE and AFTER field. (e. g. BEFORE=2 pt and AFTER=2pt. This will put 2 points of space before and after your selected line of text).

You can select multiple lines at one time to give even spacing to your invitation wording also you can select just the top line of the invitation wording and using just the BEFORE field you can move the entire body of text up or down the page.

Step 2

Click PRINT in the FILE MENU

Select the PROPERTIES button. Go to PAGE SET-UP. From there, go to PAPER SIZE and select CUSTOM SIZE. A field will appear allowing you to change the paper width and height.

The measurements are most likely to be displayed as millimetres (mm) - your guide sheet in the sample pack and online will give you the printed sheet measurement in millimetres.

If your custom size measurements display as centimetres that is fine too, you just have to insert a decimal point one space to the left (e. g. a Main Invitation measuring 148mm x 148mm becomes 14.8cm x 14.8cm; 150mm x 170mm becomes 15.0x 17.0cm and so on).

Remember to check your How-To .pdf (on the main invitation pages) for all measurements.

Select OK to save changes.
Print a test copy. Check that you're happy with the measurements, text, print quality, spacing and layout. If not, go back and check your settings.

If you're satisfied that everything looks exactly the way you want, enter the number of copies you need and print.
